Project goals

Our objective was to reimagine public services through a people-powered lens, finding ways to make public service design more responsive, inclusive, and effective.

Outcomes

A comprehensive, branded and industry-shaping impact report as well as case studies that bring peoples’ experiences to life.

Anthill Collective’s Research Director, Will Bibby, partnered with Nesta on a project that builds on more than a decade of research to pioneer a new approach to public service innovation. Public services often face ongoing challenges in meeting community needs, and there is space for a thoughtful reevaluation of how these services are designed and delivered.

Traditional models often fall short of addressing the nuanced and evolving needs of the communities they intended to serve. Will partnered with the Nesta team to bridge the gap between the design of public services and the needs and perspectives of the people who use them.

We were able to turn Nesta’s research findings into innovative ideas and real-world solutions, reframing how public services meet community needs. The project developed user-friendly tools and platforms that simplified access to services, making help and support more reachable for everyone. Community workshops not only brought people together but also equipped them with the skills to make a difference in their own neighborhoods. By focusing on what truly matters to the community, we saw an increase in engagement and satisfaction, proving that services can be both meaningful and efficient when they're built with and for the people they're intended to serve.

Complex challenges need people-powered solutions.

Designing social services.

The project report laid down a blueprint for future services—ones that are adaptable, responsive, and people-powered. The partnership between Anthill Collective and Nesta has shown that when we listen, co-create, and act, the impact can be both profound and practical, paving the way for a future where public services are a true reflection of the communities they serve.
